Mission

Why I Created

Back in 2019, I was a first‑year PhD student juggling coursework, lab rotations, and a lot of uncertainty. I didn’t see many honest depictions of what it was really like to be in grad school or to build a career in science, especially as a woman in STEM.

What started as a small Instagram experiment grew into a community of people who care about science, representation, and making STEM more welcoming.

To give students a peek behind the curtain of scientific research

To show that scientists are regular people with hobbies, bad days, and messy desks

To help bridge the gap between scientists, students, and science‑curious people who might not have access to labs or mentors yet

2019

Launched @chloe.the.scientist as a first‑year PhD student

2020–2022

Shared grad school life, research realities, and early science reads

2023–Present

Expanded into media features, education work, and science communication collaborations

Explore

The Four Pillars

I’ve built Chloe the Scientist around four core pillars to give you a full view of life, learning, and opportunities in STEM. Each pillar reflects what I’ve learned through research, communication, and my own journey and what I hope to share with you to make science more approachable, inspiring, and navigable.

Real Life in STEM

Go behind the scenes to see what science really looks like day-to-day. From lab experiments to academic challenges and career decisions, this pillar highlights the lived experiences that shape a scientist’s journey.

Science Reads

Discover curated books, articles, and resources that spark curiosity and deepen your understanding — without feeling like a textbook. I handpick ecommendations that inspired me, challenged me, or simply made science more fun.

Non-Traditional Science Careers

Science isn’t just academia or the lab. Learn how your skills can translate into roles in policy, communication, industry, and other exciting fields — paths you may not have realized exist.

Blog & Newsletters

Step inside the daily life of STEM through personal stories, practical guidance, and reflections on research, grad school, and career journeys. Stay updated with regular insights and advice delivered straight to your inbox or on the blog.

What This Space Is About

Exploring Science Beyond the Lab

This space is about making science feel approachable by sharing the real stories, experiences, and possibilities behind research and STEM careers.

Science, Without the Gatekeeping

I share what research looks like, the experiments, the questions, and the process  in a way that helps you understand what’s happening without needing a PhD to follow along.

More Than One Way to Be a Scientist

There isn’t a single “right” path in STEM. I share different career journeys and possibilities so you can see options that fit your interests, strengths, and values.

Showing the Human Side of Research

Behind every paper and discovery are real people making difficult decisions, navigating setbacks, and growing through experience.

Turning Curiosity Into Confidence

Through stories, practical insight, and honest reflection, this space is designed to help you move from wondering “Can I do this?” to believe you can.

Community & Impact

A Community for Anyone

Whether you’re a student, a scientist, or someone who simply enjoys learning about how the world works, this space was created to help you feel connected to the broader world of STEM.

Discover New Paths

I share research paths, STEM careers, and opportunities you might not have considered not to tell you which one to choose, but to help you see what’s possible for you.

Join Conversations

Whether I’m speaking in classrooms or sharing reflections online, I try to show what science actually looks like day to day: the thinking, the uncertainty, the small wins, the quiet persistence.

Find Reassurance in Shared Stories

I talk openly about setbacks, difficult decisions, imposter syndrome, and growth. Because behind every paper or achievement is a person learning as they go  and that includes me.

Be Part of a Community

If you’ve ever wondered whether you belong in STEM, I want this space to remind you that you do. There isn’t one “right” path and there isn’t one type of scientist.
